Hooking up doesn’t have to be a workout. The self-supporting arms on the etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar hold themselves up, so you can connect one side at a time without wrestling a heavy bar that wants to hit the ground. Each arm extends and pivots to line up smoothly and then locks automatically once you pull forward. With a 10,500-lb capacity and telescoping range from 39-1/4" to 51-3/4", it’s built for heavy rigs but still easy to handle.
Disconnecting on uneven ground is usually the hard part—unless you’ve got non-binding triggers. A quick squeeze on the side-mounted release levers relieves the built-up tension in the arms, letting you unhook in seconds instead of struggling or rocking the vehicle back and forth. Even when you’re parked at an angle, the XHD makes it frustration-free to wrap up and roll out.
Keeping the tow bar level within 3" of your base plate is key for safe towing. The XHD makes that easier with a built-in 1-1/2" rise/drop and a head that tilts up or down an additional 3". This built-in adjustment helps you skip extra adapters and keeps the bar level, reducing stress on your setup over long hauls.
The straight, vinyl-coated safety cables are built right in and rated at 14,000 lbs—well above the bar’s own capacity. They stay up off the ground and out of the way, with spring-loaded S-hooks that latch securely. A storage rod holds your electrical cord (sold separately) tidy and off the pavement, keeping everything organized and ready for the next trip.
When it’s time to stow, just lift the 46-lb tow bar an inch or two and swing the arms to either side. They lock in place automatically without needing to be lifted vertical. The steel arms store neatly on the RV, keeping the back end uncluttered and ready for the next adventure.

Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Still working. Great tow bar.
I use the XHD non-binding tow bar to pull a Jeep Grand Cherokee behind my Class-A motorhome. The XDH tow bar works great. It is easy to hook-up and stores nicely to the side when not in use. I especially like the Non-binding release, which makes it easier to unhook.
Have not used this yet but it gives me all the features I was looking for including the 1.5 inch lift . Note that the unit came in the lower position so if you need height you have to reverse the head. It is not that hard to do and just take your time and connect to the back end of the Rv to start the process.

I'm not sure there could be anything better for the tow bar to do. I love the ease of hooking and unhooking in less then 2 min. and the cable holder for the light hookup cable and air hookup so they can't drag on the ground. The release levers work great for taking the tension off the bars to unhook and the storage of the tow bar on the back of the RV works great. All and All I could be happier

Works well. I zip tie the coiled electric wire to the unit. Less rubbing and wear.

I like the tow bar. However, it comes with un-attached clevis kit with no instructions on how to attach it. Although the attachment is trivial, it be nice to have torque specs for the bolts. Information on the etrailer web site indicate that the bolts are 5/16 inch and should be torqued to 18 ft-lb. However, the bolts in the clevis kit are 1/2 inch and not 5/16 inch.

After a year, this tow bar still works great, looks new and has not been an issue at all. Rugged!
There were some marks in the finish do to shipping and the operator manual was damaged to the point that i could not read some parts.
I like it so far but haven't left yet.

I upgraded to this tow bar. I had 6000lb SD that was borderline acceptable for my new Gladiator. Just for safety sake I increased the rating buty purchasing the XHD version of the etrailer telescopic tow bar. It was a direct swap. Very heavy duty. No worries now. Nice product. I had used the SD version for many many years towing my 2 dr wrangler. Never had any issues.
Very satisfied, definitely need the non -binding.
Have not used it yet,but looks well made and e-trailer was easy to deal with. Answered all my questions and got me the parts I needed. Will definitely use them in the future again.
AS has been mentioned in previous reviews, the powder coat on the portion that goes into the receiver prevents inserting the tow bar into the receiver due to its thickness. It's not rust in the receiver tube preventing this as it wouldn't go into a brand new receiver. Now I have to grind off the powder coat on the 2" tube and figure out a way to keep it from rusting. etrailer should have the steel machined a few thousandths smaller to compensate for the finish thickness or just paint that 6 or so inches and powder coat the rest.
I've bought from e-trailer several times and I'm always happy with my purchase. The base plate and tow bar are of excellent quality and a good price. Installation was as not too bad; I watched the installation video for my truck even though it was for a different base plate. It gave me enough information to get the job done.
